Welcome to Expecting Miracles, the place where I share what birth work is teaching me, and what I am learning from the wonderful families who have invited me to share in this special season of their lives. Here you will find information about me and the doula services I provide, birth stories from remarkable women and their loved ones, as well as all kinds of resources to enrich your own journey of discovery.
The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

* Up to a 50% reduction in C-section rates
* Up to a 60% reduction in epidural requests
* Approximately 25% reduction in the length of labor
* Over 30% reduction in narcotic pain relief requests
* Increased maternal satisfaction with birth experience
*Increased breastfeeding success
*Increased mother-baby bonding
*Lower postpartum depression
*Statistics from Mothering the Mother, Marshall H. Klaus, M.D., John H. Kennell, M.D., and Phyllis H. Klaus, M.Ed., C.S.W., 1993
Doulas are for any woman having a baby, whether it is a natural homebirth or a scheduled cesarean or anything in between. A doula is there to support you in the birth that you want. If you want to have an epidural, among other things, a doula will provide objective information about when might be the best time to get an epidural, and how you want to make that decision.
